HAPPY NEW YEAR 201.

Welcome to 2011. Its been seven months since I left the radio Industry and I don't miss it on the slightest. I have been approached to return but have rejected any offers.
I am delighted in the way my magazine has developed since taking it over mid 2010.
We have taken an 18 page, barely profit making magazine to a 60 plus page healthy, to be proud of lifestyle, must have magazine.
Currently we have 30,000 readers and growing. Distribution is excellent with a demand from and for new outlets.
2011 looks great for WHAT'S HAPPENING MAGAZINE. We are sponsors of The Shoreham Airshow, the biggest charity airshow in the World. We will be presenting the WHAT'S HAPPENING trophy to the best air display over the weekend.
WHAT'S HAPPENING will also be sponsors of the biggest winter SURF BOARD championships to be held in October, this is part of the World Series.
From January 1st.... WHAT'S HAPPENING MAGAZINE will be available in every room of the GRAND HOTEL. BRIGHTON.
WHAT'S HAPPENING MAGAZINE is free at pick up points between Worthing & Brighton. You can find us at Tesco, Sainsbury, Hove Mainline Railway Station and 100 other points.

MIKE OFF AIR

Mike is going to be away from TALK RADIO ONE for a while and Radio in general while he works on his new business
WHAT'S HAPPENING MAGAZINE

Thank you for listening for all these years but after 40 years on air its time to move on. Mike has loved his time on radio and felt most of the time he had something to offer. Despite several offers recently, he decided enough is enough and would take the plunge into buying his own business where no one could ever 'fire' him again or not renew contracts etc.
Mike thanks people such as Bill Ridley from Talksport for giving him a dream job that he loved and was even prepared to die on air. To Mark Germaine at Talk Radio One, who himself was pushed out of work in the USA, thanks to Mark for giving Mike the opportunity to carry on working on a radio station for the past couple of years.. it has been fun and delighted that Mark has left the door open for Mike to return anytime.

Its obvious that there are fewer and fewer radio stations in the UK as more and more are swallowed up by the big 4. The way forward for most broadcasters and potential broadcasters is to move into internet radio. Opportunities to get into mainstream radio now is a distant dream. If and when you get in, make the most of it because no matter what talent you have and no matter how popular you are, some untalented management wanker will come along and screw your life up maybe forever.
Its happening in other countries as well, in the USA several thousand radio presenters have found themselves out of work. Things can only get worse!
